Dark Skies Village status
The councillors were given a presentation by Richard Darn of NYMPA Dark Skies Project. To receive Dark Skies accreditation an audit will need to be performed and a recommendation for the replacement of lighting which pollutes, by being to bright or too scattered, will be made. Grants of 75% of the cost of new lighting are available. More details will be available in due course. A short summary and details of preferred lighting can be found here.
North Yorkshire Council plan 2026-2030
North Yorkshire Council has published its four year plan. It can be accessed here.
The plan is based around four key themes (each with supporting priority actions):
- support thriving places and empowered communities where people live, work, visit and do business across North Yorkshire
- develop more sustainable and connected places across North Yorkshire
- ensure the people of North Yorkshire are safe, healthy and living well
- maximise the potential of North Yorkshire’s people and communities.
Waste Recycling Centres
NYC is introducing a free registration scheme for the household waste recycling centres on Monday 27 April 2026. This will make sure that that the household waste recycling centres are only used by North Yorkshire residents who pay for the service through their Council Tax.
Registering will be free and you can do it online in a couple of minutes.
